Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about downloading social media videos with Reelx.
General
What is Reelx?
Reelx is a free online video downloader that lets you save videos from Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, X (Twitter), Pinterest, Threads, and Facebook. You simply paste a video URL, and Reelx fetches the video for you to download as MP4 or MP3 — no account required.
Is Reelx free to use?
Yes, completely free. There are no hidden charges, no premium tiers, and no download limits. Reelx is supported by advertising which keeps the service free for everyone.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Reelx requires zero registration. Simply visit the website, paste your video link, and download. Your privacy is our priority — we do not collect personal information.
Which platforms does Reelx support?
Reelx currently supports Instagram (Reels, posts, IGTV), YouTube (Shorts and regular videos), TikTok, X / Twitter, Pinterest (video pins), Threads, Facebook (videos and Reels), and Reddit. We continuously work to add more platforms.
Is Reelx safe to use?
Yes. Reelx does not install any software on your device, does not require browser extensions, and never stores your downloaded videos on our servers. Files are streamed directly to your device and deleted from our temporary processing storage immediately after.
Downloading Videos
How do I download an Instagram Reel?
Open Instagram and find the Reel you want to save. Tap the three-dot menu and select Copy Link. Come to Reelx, paste the link in the input box, and click Get Video. Once the preview loads, tap Download MP4 to save the video.
How do I download a YouTube Short?
Open YouTube and find the Short. Tap Share, then Copy Link. The URL will look like youtube.com/shorts/xxxxxx. Paste it into Reelx, click Get Video, select your preferred quality, and download.
How do I download a TikTok video without watermark?
Copy the TikTok video link from the Share menu. Paste it into Reelx and click Get Video. Our tool attempts to download the clean version without the TikTok watermark where technically possible.
What video quality is available?
Reelx offers the best available quality for each video, typically up to 1080p HD. The quality options depend on what the source platform makes available. For YouTube, you can often choose between 360p, 480p, 720p, and 1080p. For other platforms, the best available format is automatically selected.
Why is the video preview not showing a thumbnail?
Some platforms (particularly Instagram) block direct image loading from external websites. Reelx uses a server-side thumbnail proxy to work around this. If the thumbnail still does not load, the video download itself should still work correctly.
The download opens in a new tab instead of saving. What should I do?
This is a browser behaviour for certain video formats. Right-click the video that opens and select Save Video As to save it to your device. On mobile, tap and hold the video and choose the Save option.
Can I download private videos?
No. Reelx can only download publicly available videos. Private videos, password-protected content, and content from private accounts cannot be accessed by our tool.
Can I download live streams?
Live streams cannot be downloaded while they are active. Once a live stream ends and is saved as a replay on the platform, it may be downloadable as a regular video.
MP3 Audio Downloads
How do I download audio as MP3?
After pasting your video URL and clicking Get Video, you will see two download buttons — Download MP4 and Download MP3. Click Download MP3 to extract and save the audio track as a high-quality 192kbps MP3 file.
What audio quality does the MP3 have?
Reelx extracts audio at 192kbps, which is considered high quality for most listening purposes. This is handled server-side using FFmpeg, ensuring clean audio without processing artifacts.
Can I download trending sounds from Instagram Reels?
Yes. Use the Download MP3 button after fetching any Instagram Reel. This is particularly useful for saving trending audio tracks before they get removed from the platform.
Can I use downloaded MP3s in my own videos?
Downloaded audio tracks may be subject to copyright. Music used in Reels and TikToks is typically licensed to those platforms only. Always check the original copyright status before using audio in your own content, especially for commercial purposes.
Technical & Troubleshooting
Why am I getting an error when trying to download?
Common causes include: the video is private or age-restricted, the URL was copied incorrectly, the platform has temporarily blocked our server, or the video has been deleted from the source platform. Try copying the link fresh from the platform and pasting it again.
YouTube says I need to sign in to confirm I am not a bot. What does this mean?
YouTube actively blocks downloads from datacenter servers. Reelx uses the Android client spoofing method to bypass this in most cases. If you encounter this error, try again in a few minutes or try a different video.
Does Reelx work on mobile phones?
Yes. Reelx is fully responsive and works on iOS and Android devices using Safari, Chrome, or any modern mobile browser. No app download is required.
Which browsers does Reelx support?
Reelx works on all modern browsers including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Microsoft Edge, and Opera on both desktop and mobile. Internet Explorer is not supported.
Why does the download URL open in a new tab on iOS Safari?
iOS Safari handles video file downloads differently from desktop browsers. When the video opens in a new tab, tap and hold the video, then select Download or Save to Files from the menu that appears.
How long does processing take?
Most videos are ready in 2 to 10 seconds. Longer videos or those requiring audio/video merging may take up to 30 seconds. If processing takes longer than a minute, try refreshing and submitting the URL again.
Legal & Copyright
Is it legal to download videos from social media?
Downloading publicly available videos for personal, offline viewing is generally accepted as fair use in most countries. However, laws vary by jurisdiction. Commercial use, redistribution, or re-uploading downloaded content without permission from the copyright holder is a violation of both copyright law and most platform terms of service.
I am a content creator and someone is using Reelx to steal my content. What can I do?
We take copyright seriously. If your content is being misused, please contact us at dmca@reelx.app with details including the video URL and evidence of your ownership. We will review and respond promptly.
Is Reelx affiliated with Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, or other platforms?
No. Reelx is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or partnered with any social media platform. All platform names and logos are trademarks of their respective owners.
